About Orlena

Orlena’s legal career began by providing family law assistance through LawAccess NSW, an initiative of the NSW Attorney General’s department which provides family law and generalist legal advice to residents of regional New South Wales. During Orlena’s family law career, she has worked on a broad range of issues including parenting and property cases, as well as financial issues, property settlements, child support and spousal maintenance concerns. With a specific interest in complex parenting cases, Orlena represents clients with issues such as:
  • relocation, both local and international;
  • allegations regarding sexual and physical abuse;
  • drug and alcohol abuse and mental health concerns;
  • allegations regarding ‘parental alienation’; and
  • proceedings for urgent recovery of children, including recovery of young babies.
Orlena enjoys assisting parents reach a workable resolution for the ongoing care for their children. She works with parents to ensure children have a sense of normality, consistency and familiarity following the breakdown of their parents’ relationship. Orlena works with clients to resolve cases cost-effectively recommending alternative dispute resolution techniques such as mediation or arbitration. Only where necessary, Orlena recommends taking issues to court, where she is able to draw upon her significant advocacy experience. Orlena understands that seeing a lawyer can be daunting, and the terminology used can sometimes feel complex and confusing. She works hard to ensure clients feel comfortable and understand the process, their rights and responsibilities. Orlena also has a keen interest in teaching and supervises students on work experience at Jones Mitchell Lawyers.
